The catalyst for this initiative was the inspiring speech delivered by Rotarian Amelia Stansell, who donned the persona of a superhero to emphasize the importance of leveraging our individual strengths to combat human trafficking on a global scale. Motivated by this call to action, shedding light on the grim realities of human trafficking and the urgent need for local intervention, Rotarian Charlene Dougherty with the North Myrtle Beach Rotary stepped forward to lead the newly proposed committee, igniting a series of impactful events, including a successful fundraiser styled as a Speakeasy that drew the attention of 450 attendees. The momentum continued to build as Mary Gasque, the incoming Rotary District 7770 Governor, entrusted Charlene with chairing the District Committee dedicated to raising awareness and prevention efforts against human trafficking. Assistant Governor Rotarian, Susan Cunnup, joined the effort as Co-Chair and RAHT was born. This collaborative effort exemplifies the power of community engagement and proactive measures in combating modern-day slavery, both locally and globally.
